Living Single In A Mated World, Part FIVE

I WANT TO KNOW WHAT LOVE IS

Love has consumed the pages of literature for ages. People under the inspiration of love have written of their euphoric experiences. In the presence of their beloved, some have shared they grew faint from the aphrodisiac experience of their thoughts. In Kevin Costner's Robin Hood,Muslim and Moor, Azeem says to Robin Hood, "Christian, in my country there are women so beautiful a man would die for them".

Courters have stood beneath the windows of their beloved and sang love songs. Others have fought great battles to win their love as prize. My father says he used to walk hours and miles to see my mother for only moments just to be with her and the walk seemed like nothing. I am pleased he was so inspired.

What is love that it is such an all transcending power? Al Green sang the power of love will make you do right. It will make you do wrong. It will make you come home early. It will make you stay out all night long.

In the epic film, the Ten Commandments, after killing an Egyptian, Moses takes flight to save his life. On his journey, he joined himself to the clan of a shepherd. While sitting near the fire, a daughter of the shepherd draws near Moses and talks to him of what she knows of Egyptian women. She says, "Love to them is a painted face, many fragrances, and fine linens for clothes. Here Moses, love is way of life".

What is this power that Foreigner sang of in their video I WANT TO KNOW WHAT LOVE IS, I Want You To Show Me. In the video, a man is being observed to follow a sister through a crowded city street and as he pursues her, the song is portrayed as his thoughts. A powerful choir in the background and the rhapsodic melody of I Want To Know What Love Is becomes a prayer to the Creator.

If we are to know what love is, we will have to surrender ourselves to its great power and consider its source. First, ancient texts (THE BIBLE FOR ME) in many spiritual contexts make clear to us that the Creator is love and that the children of creation are to love the creator with all of their heart in response to be created, to being alive, to knowing the gift of life.. Second, we are to love the gift of life alive in us. We are to love ourselves. Third, we are to love the gift of life in others with the same intensity and energy that we have learned to love the gift of life in ourselves.

Let's take a close look at the close of this installment of Living Single In A Mated World to see if we have gotten a glimpse of what love really is.

First, it is the intentional acknowledgement of The Creator who has given life. Life is a gift.

Second, it is the intentional response to the Creator of gratitude for the gift of life.

Third, it is the privilege to be a sensory and sensual being. There is some good stuff alive in us. That is why we seek to love and be loved from the cradle to the grave. It is who we are.

Fourth, it is the privilege to share with other sensory and sensual beings. This is a gift. Do you remember the first time you were touched or touched someone and love was the motivation? I feel you. Maybe you want to visit that moment this morning and feel it all over again.

Fifth, love is about building strategic friendships, fellowships, relationships, companionships, and community.

Sixth, love is to be enjoyed because it is the real food and fuel of life. There is no healthy context for enjoying the gift of life without love. We cannot live well without love.

Seventh, love gives us peace because it is first of all and always giving of itself to and for self and others.

The words of the song said, I'm gonna take a little time, a little time to think things over. I got to read between the lines because I need it when I am older. In my life, there's been heartache and pain. I don't know if I can face it again. I can't stop now. I have tried so hard to change this lonely life. I want to know what love is. I want you to show me. I want to know what love is. I want you to show me.

As I conclude this fifth installment of this series, know that love is looking for YOU. Love is alive with power all around you. Love is waiting for an opportunity to present itself to you, to embrace you, be embraced by you and receive all the affection you have on hold that is in a constant state of overflow with no where to go. YOU GOT LOVE COMING TO YOU. FEEL THAT and lay back on your pillow and smile.

Be thankful your beloved other already exists and can't wait to get with you to get on with the happily ever after. Be Ready! Be Ready! Be Ready!

To the Creator say today if you need to, "I do not know how to love. I want to know what love is. I want you to show me." I hope you will meet me here again next week as we conclude with part six of LIVING SINGLE IN A MATED WORLD.

Until then, have a great millennial week everybody. As you are loved and blessed this week, do not forget to be a loving blessing to someone who needs to be loved and blessed, by you.

YOU ARE LOVED!
